The Saturday ride this week is the infamous Camden Enduro loop. It starts at the Bagel at 7:30 and heads up Barnetown hill, Hope Hill, High St, steep side of Moody Mountain, back down 105, rest break at Hope general store (this could be a good spot to peel off as well), then go right up Hatchet, over to Route 17, and up the steep side of Cleary Hill. When I've done it in the past I would ride the flats slowly and save the energy for the hills. This is a great loop and will really help make you strong. The loop ends up being 54 miles. If you want to make it shorter then you can go straight back to Camden after the Hope General Store.

It's been a great week. The trails at the Snow Bowl are in great shape, all raked and buffed.

Have a good rest of the week!Camden Endurance Programshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12071382138882568499noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3347271914268527439.post-38424780009809243922010-04-17T02:40:00.000-07:002010-04-17T02:41:32.862-07:00No ride 4/17I'm seeing a bit of ice on the ground. Warm temps made the conditions great. We were all pretty groggy still but had a great five-man pace line on Green Acre. Gabe F. ran away with the sprint.

It's supposed to get colder this week. The low Friday night is supposed to be 15 degrees. So when it's cold on Saturday put on an extra layer and come ride! It should warm up quickly. I still can't believe the month we've had. See you Saturday.Camden Endurance Programshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12071382138882568499noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3347271914268527439.post-68350810289563767642010-03-14T08:04:00.000-07:002010-03-14T08:19:07.253-07:00Great First Ride!Yesterday we had nine riders show up for the first Bagel ride of the season. We had several new riders. Several of last years "regulars" could not make it. So it looks promising for growing the ride participation this year. The pace stayed manageable for good reason. With this being the first ride everyone was pretty cooked at the end of the ride. Casey Leonard suggested a Tuesday/ Thursday element be added to the schedule this year. It might be nice to have a mountain bike ride on Tuesdays. I'm a strong advocate for a consistent schedule. A tentative schedule could be:

Saturdays: Bagel Ride
Tuesdays: Snow Bowl 5:30pm-6:45pm
Thursdays: Road ride 5:30am-6:30am?? Mill St. loop..???

Let me know your thoughts. Also see the Twitter comment. There is a St. Patty's ride from Bikesenjava on this Wednesday.

Keep spreading the word about the rides. Longer days now should help out the riding. Have a great week.Camden Endurance Programshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12071382138882568499noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3347271914268527439.post-23982602056721518552010-03-08T05:33:00.000-08:002010-03-12T02:28:26.925-08:00High TechTwo new additions for this year:

March 6th and great riding! I got out on the mountain bike on Tuesday this week. I was out on the roads for the first time. I was cruising down Molyneaux Road when Casey L. caught up with me on his single speed. We rode in the woods for a few minutes.

Yesterday I rode behind Maine Sport for a loop. The conditions were great. There was frost in the ground which kept things firm. There was one small mud spot. If the weather stays dry the woods should be in good shape in a few weeks.

Today, Bill O'Brien and I did a nice loop and decided to get the Saturday Bagel Rides going again. So, next Saturday, March 13th the rides will start. We will meet at the Bagel at 7:15am and leave at 7:30am. We plan on doing the same route as last year and plan to go with the same format. We were winded today, I'm thinking that the rides will be chill for several weeks. Let us know if you have any feedback for the ride formats this year.

Have a good week. If all goes well see you next Saturday!

It looked at first like it might just be Alden and me with cold fingers, but we were joined by Morgan, Geoff, and Ken. Geoff continued on to the Common Ground Fair from Belmont, and Morgan flew up Moody Mountain like he was on a motorcycle.

I'm not sure if I'll make it out next Saturday, as I'm planning on doing the Cadillac Century on the Sunday:

http://web.mac.com/zorbathegeek/Cadillac/Home.html

Alden and Ken are thinking of doing the 100 miles. I've heard rumors of Jason perhaps making it? Brad?

Also, Morgan had an idea for a final fall Camden Enduro ride- something involving all the big hills in the area followed by cold beverages. More details from Morgan.
We had seven riders show up. Everything is on for the ride this Saturday. I'll be in NH for the 12 hour race, Ken Foster is in Italy. Erik and Bill will run the ride.

I hope everyone has a good week. If anyone is interested in learning more about triathlon, Matt Boobar, an XTERRA pro, from Rockport is having a clinic tonight at Maine Sport at 6pm. Matt is a great athlete. I coached with him this winter and he's a great resource.

Have a great week!
Camden Endurance Programshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12071382138882568499noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3347271914268527439.post-76508267578303431092009-07-28T06:12:00.001-07:002009-07-28T06:31:00.402-07:00Hello Sun!I just got back from a good 80 minute spin. Great conditions this morning. It looks like the ride took place on sat with 4 attendees.

Brad, Jason, and I did the Lobster Century. It was incredible! I was a bit nervous because I had ridden three hours once this year and it was back in April. We started the ride off thinking we would go real slow for the first 50. But after we started we settled in to a fast pace, leading the ride with a club from Prince Edward Island. I ran into my old boss from the Coastal Nordic Ski Club, Charlie, as well as his riding buddy from Yarmouth. We also picked up Roberto, an engineering professor from Argentina, and developed into a pack of six. We rode through Camden and then started off on the exact same Saturday Bagel route that we do. We has a rest stop at Belmont corner and rode back to Rock.

After the 50 mi rest stop legs were draggy but we got back into a nice groove. The wind picked up riding down the PC Peninsula. As we stopped at 75 mi we were surprised at how well we felt. We picked up the pace riding back to Rockland and finished strong. We ended up averaging 19.8 mph and all agreed that we could ride a lot faster. It was a great confidence builder as well as a great bonding experience. It was a positive energy event that raised money for BCM. We are all fired up to get a group to do the Bar Harbor Century on 10/4. Mark your calendar!

All of us have been consistent with the Saturday Bagel rides. We all agreed that even though the ride is only 90 minutes long, it does a lot for overall conditioning. We'll see you this Saturday at 7:30am.

I'll be in Great Glen on 8/8.

Have a good week. If anyone is up for a 5:30am road or mountain bike ride this week send me an email.
Camden Endurance Programshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12071382138882568499noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3347271914268527439.post-58753576835665826162009-07-26T03:23:00.001-07:002009-07-26T03:24:39.184-07:00Saturday RideGreat spin yesterday, but only four of us- Mike, Leon, Dana, and I.
