Hello Sun!

I just got back from a good 80 minute spin. Great conditions this morning. It looks like the ride took place on sat with 4 attendees.

Brad, Jason, and I did the Lobster Century.  It was incredible!  I was a bit nervous because I had ridden three hours once this year and it was back in April.  We started the ride off thinking we would go real slow for the first 50.  But after we started we settled in to a fast pace, leading the ride with  a club from Prince Edward Island.   I ran into my old boss from the Coastal Nordic Ski Club, Charlie, as well as his riding buddy from Yarmouth.  We also picked up Roberto, an engineering professor from Argentina, and developed into a pack of six.  We rode through Camden and then started off on the exact same Saturday Bagel route that we do.  We has a rest stop at Belmont corner and rode back to Rock.

After the 50 mi rest stop legs were draggy but we got back into a nice groove.  The wind picked up riding down the PC Peninsula.  As we stopped at 75 mi we were surprised at how well we felt.  We picked up the pace riding back to Rockland and finished strong.  We ended up averaging 19.8 mph and all agreed that we could ride a lot faster.  It was a great confidence builder as well as a great bonding experience.  It was a positive energy event that raised money for BCM.  We are all fired up to get a group to do the Bar Harbor Century on 10/4.  Mark your calendar!

All of us have been consistent with the Saturday Bagel rides.  We all agreed that even though the ride is only 90 minutes long, it does a lot for overall conditioning.  We'll see you this Saturday at 7:30am.

I'll be in Great Glen on 8/8.

Have a good week.  If anyone is up for a 5:30am road or mountain bike ride this week send me an email.

Saturday Ride

Great spin yesterday, but only four of us- Mike, Leon, Dana, and I. I believe others were riding the Century? How did that go?

Here's hoping for big numbers next week!

Week of 7/20

I had a hell of a ride this last Saturday in the rain.  With the rain and the Hope Tri going on I rode solo.  Congrats on those who did the Hope Tri.   Everything is on for the ride this Saturday.  Jason Gallant, myself, and whoever else will be down at the Lobster Century in Rockland.  All info regarding the ride is at http://www.bikemaine.org/lobsterride/index.html .

Bill O'brien is back from the UK so he'll probably be leading the Saturday ride.  I'm gone again next weekend for the mountain bike race in NH.

Have a good rest of the week!

July 11th Ride Report

Seven riders made it out for a glorious Saturday ride; numbers were down slightly due to the Maine Bike Rally in Fryeburg and a triathlon in Connecticut. There was something for everyone: conversational pace from the Bagel Cafe to the end of Slab City Road, quick paceline along Green Acre Road, and an attack to the base of the Moody Mountain climb with surges and counterattacks to the summit. All in all, it could have been a stage from Le Tour.

Speaking of Le Tour, riders shared the tip that the race is streamed live on Versus for free.

Some riders will be racing in the Hope Triathlon next Saturday, but others will meet at the Bagel Cafe between 7:15 and 7:30 for another great ride.

The following Saturday, July 25th is the annual Lobster Ride century. It promises to be a great ride- post in the comments if you plan to be there.

Keep spinning,

Bill

Week of 6/30

We had 7 riders show up for the ride last week.  It was another fog and drizzle laden morning but it was a great ride.  Grant, a firefighter from  Florida joined us on the ride.  He was fast on the flats but hadn't ridden hills in years.  The Green Acre sprint has been a home run and it will stick. There was a photo finish last week with Eric Gutheinz taking the prize.

21 days of rain in June, this after a great first week of the month.  Pretty depressing but it happens.  This Saturday, the 4th appears to be the first sign of brightness on weather.com in weeks.  We'll ride from the Bagel at 7:30 as usual.  Bill O'Brien is back from Italy as well.

Keep thinking about the Lobster Century  at the end of the month!
